The ABA principles, with their emphasis on highly structured
and sequenced teaching strategies, and systematic, data-based
evaluation methods, are especially suited to the goal of
effective instruction for individuals with Autism.
ABA Therapy accomplishes the following:
- understanding skill and behavior strengths and deficits
- structuring the learning environment
- systematically teaching discrete, observable steps that define a skill
- teaching generalization and maintenance of newly learned skills
It is important to realize that “Applied Behavior Analysis”
is a broad approach for facilitating behavior change. One
specific training method within ABA is referred to as “Discrete
Trial Training (DTT)” and can be effective when applied to a
particular skill and behavior.
